Mmm as a fairy godmother I know a lot about forests... especially Magic Forests like this one as this is where all the fairies live. The trees here are so blue and beautiful and there's so many of them, that we fairies have a wonderful time flying from limb to limb and making fairy swings in the shade of the juicy leaves. However there was a time... known as the time of the woodchoppers... when trees in the Magic Forest were in danger. Let me tell you all about it...

It was a long, long time ago and the trees around here were just starting to turn blue. They looked quite pretty really, but not quite as true blue as they are today. Anyway it was at this time that the Magic Forest was in danger. You see the woodchoppers used to come charging into the forest and chop down the trees... very sad, really. In this "time of the woodchoppers" we fairies didn't hold out much hope for the Magic Forest. Not much hope at all. Everyday the woodchoppers would come, chop down lots of trees and then they would return to their homes... leaving the trees on the ground weeping tears of sap.

One day a very brave fairy, named Timber hid behind one of the trees. And just as the lead woodchopper was about to start chopping the tree down she cried out, "Please... please don't chop the trees down!"

The woodchopper was surprised and looked around to see who had called out. Of course he couldn't see the tiny fairy named Timber, so again he lifted his axe and prepared to chop at the tree.

And again Timber called, "Please... please don't chop the trees down!"

"Who is calling for me to save the trees," demanded the woodchopper. "Come out now or I will chop and chop until this tree is small enough to be the finest toothpick in the whole world!"

Now although she was afraid, Timber peeked out from behind the tree.

"It is me, Timber," she cried. "Please don't chop down the trees."

"And what will you give me in return," demanded the Woodchopper.

Quickly Timber thought. What could she give the woodchopper in return? What did she have that was worth anything to this big woodchopper? And then it came to her.

"I'll give you three wishes," Timber stated boldly.

Now the woodchopper rubbed his chin and scratched his leg as he thought about this offer. He knew the value of three wishes from a Magic Forest fairy, but he was greedy and thought he'd ask for more.

"Right," he said. "I'll take those three wishes and we won't chop down any more trees for 1 year. At the end of that year we will return to the forest and if you do not give another three wishes we will start chopping down all the trees!"

The fairy Timber agreed to this bargain and happily gave the woodchopper his three wishes... which I might tell you he had wasted before even leaving the forest... but that's another story.

Anyway, 'til this very day the woodchoppers return to the Magic Forest every year to collect their three wishes. Mind you... woodchoppers go into lots of forests looking for the fairy to stop them from cutting down the trees... and to grant their wishes. You can hear these woodchoppers call out to her as they cut down the trees... "Timber... TIMBER... TIMBER!!"
